October 2, 2020 - Transition for K-5

Hello Loon Lake Families,

Fall is finally upon us, though with temperatures near 80 degrees this weekend, it is kind of hard to tell.

As always, I hope this message finds you healthy and well.

As you know, when we started this school year, the recommendation from NE Tri County Health District was for schools in Stevens County to begin the year with remote learning.  At that time, disease transmission in our county was in the high risk range.

Over the last month or so, we have seen the disease transmission rate decrease, and we are now in the moderate risk range.  This means that NE Tri County Health has officially updated their recommendation, and have given the green light to schools in Stevens County to consider expanding face-to-face learning for elementary students.

This is excellent news.  It doesn’t mean we are out of the woods yet, but it’s a step in the right direction, and it means we can start to have more kids here at school each day.  Our goal is to begin this transition on Monday, October 12th, which is a week from this coming Monday, and we will begin with grades K through 5.  How often they will be here is going to depend on the size of the class, since we are still required to have kids 6 feet apart.  And we believe in safety and starting slow, so at this time, we are looking at face-to-face learning in the mornings only.

In the coming days, your child’s teacher will reach out to you regarding the specific plan for their grade level.  So, you can expect more specific info about this next week.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Have a great weekend and take good care.  We’ll chat again soon –
