Hello Loon Lake Families,

I want to offer my sincere thanks for your patience as we have been planning services that will be starting on Monday.  We are ready to roll, so I wanted to give you a quick update on the 3 main things:  Food service, optional learning opportunities, and childcare.  But before I start, just a reminder that this whole Coronavirus situation we are all facing seems to keep changing.  If more restrictions are placed on us from our state’s leaders, our plans might need to change.  So please keep that in mind.  But as of today, right now, this is our plan.

So first, regarding food service, thank you so much for filling out our family needs survey.  This survey, and the phone calls you should have received from your child’s bus driver have helped us get a general idea of how many folks need meals delivered.  So a reminder of our plan:  On Monday morning, we will load our buses with food.  Beginning at 9:00 a.m., they will drive their afternoon routes and deliver to families who need it.  Remember, any child between the ages of 0 and 18 can receive these meals, regardless of where they go to school.  We will also have meals available for pickup here out front of Loon Lake Elementary between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.    The challenging piece of this is truly knowing how many meals are needed.  We hope our estimates are accurate.  If for some reason something weird happens when we start this and you don’t get the meals you need, please call our office and we will do what we need to do to make sure you get those meals.

Second, let’s talk about optional, enrichment learning opportunities.  Our plan is to provide these optional activities and materials for families who want them on a week-by-week basis.  Every Monday morning, beginning at 9:00, these materials will be available to pick up from our school office.  So right now, for all grades, including preschool, we have materials ready for you to pick up on Monday.  Our teachers have been working hard on this.  If you can’t pick them up on Monday, don’t worry.  You can pick them up any time during our office hours, which is Monday through Thursday, 8:00 to 4:30.

A few more quick thoughts on this:

  • - Remember, these learning activities are optional and there is no penalty for not completing them.
  • - As your child finishes these activities, just plan on bringing them back to us the following week when you pick up the next batch.
  • - We are requesting that families do not ask to retrieve items from within our building, as we are hard at work deep cleaning this place.  If there is something that is a true necessity, we will try to fetch it for you.
  • - And finally, if you have any questions about these learning activities, the best way to reach your child’s teacher is via email.  Don’t hesitate to do this.  A staff directory of email addresses is on our website.  Also on our website, you will see a link to some online learning resources for kids.  Feel to check those out as well.
  • - If you have other questions on this topic, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Ok, finally, let’s talk about childcare.  We are working with families in need on a case-by-case basis.  I have reached out individually to each family who said they might need some help.  If you have not talked to me directly, for the safety of your kids and your family, please do not bring them here for childcare.   If your needs in this area change, please let us know as soon as you can so we can prepare accordingly.

Please reach out if you have any questions or need anything at all.  The Loon Lake Family is strong and we will get through the upcoming weeks together.  Stay safe and healthy, and take good care.

Sincerely,
Brad
